British Film Director Kaitlyn Boxall: Home Is Not A Safe Place For Everyone
Film Director of Independent Film, “Behind Closed Doors” (2021) raises awareness of domestic abuse in England during the covid19 pandemic.
Kaitlyn Lorraine Boxall is a British Film Director who wrote, directed and produced “Behind Closed Doors”, which is a British-made film, based in London.
The 32-minute piece is registered on global film review site IMDB and has been viewed across the UK, North America and the Philippines. As stated from recent articles published online, “It addresses domestic violence before and during the pandemic and Kaitlyn hopes sharing the story will help save the lives of hundreds of victims. The film follows the story of Lisa Crawford, portrayed by Holly Prentice, living through an abusive marriage until her best friend, Alison, played by Ellie Mulhern, refers her to a counsellor.”
Following a number of written articles on the independent short film, Kaitlyn Boxall has confirmed that there will be a sequel on the way! This sequel has been confirmed as “Behind Closed Doors 2”. According to recent articles written about the first film; Behind Closed Doors has become a film, of which has helped audiences from around the world speak out about domestic violence. This is particularly other countries such as Philippines and India. In accordance to Kaitlyn Boxall’s audio interview on Maritime Radio, “Philippines and India have different laws than the UK, where domestic abuse is deemed a normality.”
The director has not yet confirmed when the second film is expected to be released or when we can expect to see the trailer. Despite this, we have seen clips and photos of the second film currently in the making and we still await to hear a release date.
The Director, Kaitlyn has previously stated, “Due to the significant rise of domestic abuse cases in lockdown, this is a subject in film that really needs to be addressed. Domestic violence is deemed as a normality in many countries, and I am glad the film has gained attention in these particular countries aside from just Britain. If it can save at least one person’s life, then I know I have achieved that.”

According to a article from ‘Thornton Heath Chronicle’, “Film director, Kaitlyn Boxall, survived life at the hands of a violent father thanks only to the bravery and love of her mother who protected her while pregnant from domestic abuse. Her film, Behind Closed Doors was developed to raise awareness and empower victims of domestic abuse to escape their life of violence. The story of the main character Lisa Crawford, is inspired by her mother’s shocking ordeal.”
Kaitlyn said: “If the film, ‘Behind Closed Doors’ can save at least one person’s life, then I know I have achieved that. To all victims who are living with domestic abuse, before lockdown and during, I promise you that there is hope! Material things do not matter, the big posh house, the out lookers looking in, thinking your life is perfect. The psychological affect is devastating. Get out, and do not be ashamed to ask for help. Peace of mind is invaluable. You CAN start again, and you WILL.
The emotional impact was more my mother, and still is to this day. My mother had met a circle of friends in Thornton Heath, they were wonderful to her. She could not tell any of them, that she was planning on leaving, as it would create risk of my dad finding out.
Once he realised that she was gone, he took her to court for parental responsibility just to spite her. Till this very day, he has never used it and has never ever been a part of my life. He only ever wanted pure control.”
